A letter to my teenage self

I have been a victim of bullying.When I was in grade 5 we moved from Lenasia which was a predominantly Indian area to Robertsham. I will never forget my first day in my new school. Some of the other Muslim kids asked ‘how can you be Muslim, you’re so dark?’ They came to the conclusion that I was a ‘black Muslim’. I didn’t even understand what they meant. When I went high- school it was even worse. I was picked on because I was ‘dark’ I had curly hair and my dad was a revert and it was a Muslim school.  I struggled in grade 8 and I blamed my parents for putting me in that school. I started rebelling against my parents, I did everything they told me not to do. I consumed alcohol, had bad friends, ran away from home and even attempted suicide. I remember questioning myself some nights about the colour of my skin. Don’t worry about those that pick on you because they are not permanent in your life. OHHH NOOOO IT’S BABY WEIGHT

Well I’ve been tiny all my life and didn’t ever struggle with weight. I weighed about 50kg before my pregnancy. By the end of my pregnancy, I weighed a whooping 80 kgs.  Shocking!!! I know. Well after 5 months, I’m down to 55kgs. I was nervous about gaining so much weight but somehow it all seems to be going. I couldn’t use a belly binder like most mums due to all the extra cuts that I had on the inside. I still have some pain so exercise is also out of the question for now. I can’t diet as I’m breastfeeding. Lol don’t even talk about the breastfeeding. I’m super hungry all the time and I’m a sucker for junk food so I eat loads of it. However here are some of my tips for weight-loss: 1. Drink loads of water…I drink at least two litres a day. Add lemon oranges or strawberries to make it taste better. 2. Be as active as possible…for me this means washing breast-pumps, bottles and dummies all day long, burping and feeding the baby 🙂 lol she loves to be carried and I walk up a...

My Journey To Taking A Sabbatical

Life can sometimes be unpredictable, and the things you thought you once wanted to do, soon become obsolete!!! Ever had that feeling? Well, at the age of 31, I kinda found myself a little frazzled with life. My husband and I were working hard after having 2 beautiful kids 19 months apart. This is what life looked like… We found ourselves leaving home around 6am and returning  home 7pm or later daily, having takeout dinners more than 50% of the week.  I was chasing my career to the next level, studying part time, serving at my local church, being wife and mum, running the home, not forgetting birthdays (this is a big one, thank God for Facebook reminders), making home cooked meals, dealing with usual stresses of life, which left me spending so little time with my children, who not to mention were still babies, and not being present even when I was present… I tried so hard to keep it together, and be graceful through it all!!!
